The Debate Committee is a space for students interested in political discussion, critical thinking, and structured argumentation. Our core activity is the organisation of serious debates on significant political and ethical topics, where participants engage in well-prepared, structured exchanges. These debates encourage students to explore complex issues from multiple perspectives and develop strong analytical and rhetorical skills.
To support this, we hold weekly practice meetings that are lighter, more informal, and often intentionally unserious. These sessions are designed to build confidence, improve spontaneity, and help members develop their speaking style in a relaxed environment. They also serve as preparation for our more formal debates.
In addition to our own debates, the committee also attends Model United Nations (MUN) conferences, giving members the opportunity to engage in diplomacy, negotiation, and international policy discussions on a wider stage.
The current board of the committee consists of:
Chair: Amel
Vice-Chair: Farah
Secretary & Treasurer: Matilda
